Setting up Frontier X and Fourth Frontier app

    1. How do I switch on/off my Frontier X?

      Press the red button on your Frontier X device once, and the color display on the device will come on.
      After five minutes, your Frontier X will go into sleep mode to save battery.

    2. How do I connect my Frontier X to my phone?

      After the device is switched on, a blue light will start blinking. The blue light will stop blinking after five minutes of inactivity.. As long as the device is blinking blue, you can connect the device to the mobile app.
      Go to the Home Screen of the Frontier Run app. Select the Menu sidebar in the upper left-hand corner (with the three dashes), and then select ‘Connect’. Select the device ID that you want to connect with, and then click on the button “Connect”.
      Once the device is connected the blue blinking light will turn into a ‘green’ blinking light.

    3. Can I connect my Frontier X to my smart watch?

      Yes, your Frontier X can be connected to an Apple watch. Please refer to the instructions in the User manual, on how to connect your Frontier X with an Apple watch.

     

    Setting Alerts

      1. How do I set-up my ‘Effort Alert’?

        Once your device is connected with the Fourth Frontier app, select the green Play button on the tab at the bottom of your Home screen on the app. This will take you to the “Start Activity” page.
        Click on the drop-down menu next to the ‘Effort Alert’, then selecting the Breathing Rate value at which you would like to be alerted during your training, and then click on “Set Alert”. Wait for two seconds for the value to be updated on the device.

      2. How do I set-up my ‘Strain Alert’?

        Once your device is connected with the Fourth Frontier app, go to the Home Screen of the app. Select the green Play button on the tab at the bottom of the screen. This will take you to the “Start Activity” page.
        Click on the drop-down menu next to the ‘Strain Alert’. This will take you to the Strain Alert settings, where you will be able to select the appropriate Strain value for your  workout. Once you have chosen an appropriate setting, make sure to select “Set Alert”. Wait for up to two seconds for the value to be updated on the device.

      3. What is the recommended ‘Effort’ level?

        We recommend a level of 40+ for a full-marathon, 45+ for a half marathon, 50+ for a 10k or 5k. But each individual should determine their optimal alert settings by training with the device.

      4. What is the recommended ‘Strain’ level?

        We recommend a value of 0.175+ (milliVolts) if you have no known cardiac conditions. 

       

      Recording a workout/training


        1. What is the best way to wear my Frontier X?How and where do I wear my Frontier X?

          First make sure that the electrodes on your Frontier X are snapped on to the buttons on the strap.
          Wear the strap while ensuring that the red button of the device is facing down, and the device is located right in the middle of your chest. When worn on the chest, the strap should feel tight, but not uncomfortable. Make sure that the shiny electrode patches on the bottom of the strap are in contact with your skin.

        2. Do I need to sync my Frontier X with the app before starting a recording?

          You can record a session on the device with or without syncing it to the mobile app. *But you need to sync your device in order to view data from a recorded session.

        3. How do I start recording a workout on my Frontier X?

          Simply double-press the red button on your FrontierX device to start a new recording. You will feel a buzz, then the display will show the words “Recording Started.” Your Frontier X will blink red when it is recording.
          If you are working out with your smartphone or smartwatch, you can also start a recording on the external device. Once your Frontier X is connected to the app on your smartphone or smartwatch, indicated by a blinking green light, in the Fourth Frontier app, navigate to the Start Activity page and press the green Play button. The device will buzz you to confirm that the recording has started.

        4. How do I stop recording my workout on my Frontier X?

          To stop a recording, double-press the red button on your Frontier X and you will feel a buzz. The display will show the words “Recording Ended.” The red blinking light will stop when the recording has ended.
          To stop the recording from the mobile app on your smartphone or smartwatch, go to the Current Activity page and select the red Stop button. The device will buzz you when the recording has stopped.

        5. How do I record an event during my workout?

          The purpose of recording events on your Frontier X is to bookmark specific moments in your workout. Some examples are when you are starting or stopping an activity, when you felt significant exertion, or when you felt an unusual amount of strain on your heart.
          To mark an event during your exercise session, press the red button on your Frontier X device one time. The recording will continue, but later, you will be able to see the events you marked on your Fourth Frontier app.

        Viewing data from a workout or training session

          1. How do I see real-time data of my workout/training on my Frontier X?

            To view data during your workout, connect your app to Frontier X, and then navigate to the current activity screen, by selecting the green play button on the Home tab. If the device is already recording when you connect your app, it will automatically navigate to the current run screen, and you will be able to see your values updating every 20 seconds. You can also view your real-time data on an Apple watch. Please refer to the User manual for details regarding this.

          2. How do I see my workout/training data on the Fourth Frontier app?

            After your workout, when you connect your Frontier X to your mobile app, a message will automatically appear on the app, prompting you to sync new data to the phone. If this automatic prompt does not appear, you can also select “Sync Data” from the Menu sidebar of the app.
            Once the syncing process starts, you will need to wait 10 to 15 seconds for data to be saved onto your phone.

          3. How can I see a summary of all my recorded workouts?

            Once the sync is complete, you can retrieve your data by going to the History page on your Fourth Frontier app.
            On the History page, you will be able to view summaries of all of your recorded workouts.
            You can retrieve a summary of a workout by selecting a specific workout  in the History page.

          4. How do I view my timeline graph?

            To view the timeline graph, click on the graph icon on the top right side. This will open up the detailed graph of your workout, where you will be able to see how the different parameters varied over time. If you recorded an event during your workout, it will appear as a white line in the graph of your overall workout. If you got an Effort alert, it will appear as a green line, and if you got a Strain alert, it will appear as a yellow line on the Timeline graph.
          ECG streaming and report
            1. How do I live-steam my ECG recording?

              To live-stream your ECG to your mobile phone, open your Fourth Frontier app.
              Go to the Menu sidebar. Select ECG, then select Live Streaming. You can exit ECG streaming by selecting Back.

            2. How do I generate my ECG report? 

              To generate an ECG report, open your Fourth Frontier app. Go to the Menu sidebar and select ECG. Then select “ECG Report”. It will take 20 seconds to generate your ECG report.
              You can choose to export your ECG report by selecting Export PDF in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

            Syncing Frontier X to Wi-Fi
              1. How do I sync my Frontier X to Wi-Fi to export my data?

                To download raw ECG data recorded during a workout from your FrontierX, open the Fourth Frontier app on your phone. Go to the Menu sidebar. Then select Wifi Sync.
                The app will now prompt you to connect to an access point starting with “4FAP”. Select OK to connect to this access point.
                After you select “OK”, the file will be downloaded over WiFi and stored in your file system. The file will also be uploaded automatically to the server, and you will automatically receive an email with your detailed report in three to four minutes.
                If the file did not get uploaded due to network connectivity issues, when your network issues get resolved, you can select “Raw data files”, and click on the upload icon next to the file name that you would like to upload. The file names are stored in the format YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_email.bin, where the date and time corresponds to the time that you initiated Wifi Sync.
              Viewing data on the Fourth Frontier Web Application
                1. How do I view my data on the Web Application?

                  Within a few minutes of uploading your data, you will receive an email with a link to your data. Click on the link, and then log into your account. You will be redirected to a page like this:

                  From the list, select a workout to view a comprehensive summary: 

                  On this page, you can scroll through your entire workout data. As you move your cursor, you will see your HR, Strain and BR values, along with the ECG strip corresponding to the 20 seconds worth of data for which the derived values have been computed.

                Connecting the Frontier App to another device
                  1. How do I connect another device on my Fourth Frontier app?

                    You can only connect one Frontier X device to the Fourth Frontier app at a time.
                    To connect to another device on your Fourth Frontier app, you will first need to unpair the previous Frontier X.. In your app, go to the Menu sidebar and select Disconnect. If your Frontier X has not been used for some time, it may have disconnected automatically.
                    Once you have disconnected from the previous device, you can connect with a new Frontier X by selecting Connect. Follow the directions for how to connect your device to your Fourth Frontier app. When connected to the app, a Frontier X device will blink green.
                  Charging Frontier X

                    1. How do I charge my Frontier X?

                      Connect the device to any regular micro-USB charger using the micro-USB port located on the device. Your device should charge fully in two hours. 
                      You can view the battery level on the device screen while the device is charging. Once the battery level crosses 95 percent, the device is sufficiently charged, and you can disconnect from the charger.
                      Ensure that your Frontier X is charged to at least 20 percent before downloading your ECG data over WiFi. Other functions can be used until the battery level reaches 10 percent. 
                    Troubling Shooting 
                      1. How do I reboot my Frontier X?

                        If your Frontier X is acting abnormally, press down the red button on the device for five to six seconds, until the lights go off. Release the button. The device will reboot, indicated by a succession of red, then green, then blue lights, and a short buzz. Your Frontier X should be ready to use as before.

                      2. How do I reboot the Fourth Frontier app?

                        If the Fourth Frontier app seems to be malfunctioning, press your phone’s home button to quit the app. Wait for five seconds before rebooting the app. You should now be able to use the app and the device as before.

                      3. How do I update my Frontier X with the latest Firmware?

                        If there is a new version of the Firmware available on our server, the Firmware will automatically be updated when you connect your device to the app, assuming that no recording is taking place at that time.
                        To manually update the Firmware, make sure that your smartphone is connected to the internet. Also make sure that the Fourth Frontier app is connected to your Frontier X over Bluetooth.
                        Place your Frontier X and your smartphone next to each other. In your Fourth Frontier app, select “Firmware Upgrade” from the Menu sidebar. 
                        Wait for the progress bar to complete. After this, the device will reset, indicated by a succession of solid blue, red, green, and blue lights, and a buzz. 
                        Your Frontier X should reset and reconnect automatically to the Fourth Frontier app.
